How we handle information you send through this website.

This website is run by the Shrewsbury & District Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association. For any data question, contact the committee using our Send a message form.
When you use the “Send the committee a message” form, we collect your name, email address, the role you selected, and your message. We use these only to read your enquiry and reply to it. We do not collect your IP address, we do not use tracking cookies, and we never sell or share your details for marketing.
The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell humans from bots; Cloudflare may process limited technical data for that check. No advertising profile is built.
We keep basic, anonymous statistics about how this website is used — page views, approximate visitor numbers, which pages are popular, and broken links — purely to help us look after and improve the site. This is first-party and privacy-preserving: we do not use cookies or any third-party trackers, we do not store your IP address, and we build no profile of you or track you across other websites. Visitor counts use an anonymised code derived from your network address that is regenerated every day and cannot be traced back to you or linked from one day to the next.
If you are a member and choose to receive news by email, we store your email address so we can send you a short notice when the branch posts news. Unlike most of the members' area — where your details are held in a form even we can't read — this email must be readable by the site in order to send it, so it is encrypted at rest and used only to send you these notices. It is never used for anything else, never shared, and never passed to any third party. This is entirely optional: you tick a box to opt in, every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can turn it off any time on your account page — doing so deletes your stored email immediately. Our lawful basis is your consent.
We rely on your consent (the tick-box on the form, or when subscribing to news) and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries from the public and our members.
Messages and replies are stored securely on our hosting and are automatically deleted after 6 months. We may keep a message longer only if it relates to an ongoing welfare or safeguarding matter.
Your message goes to the branch committee inbox and is forwarded to the relevant officer so they can reply. Replies are sent to you from the committee address. We don't disclose your details to anyone outside the branch committee.
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it at any time — just send us a message and we'll action it promptly. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
